1. La Liga has been the strongest league in all European domestic competitions for the last 5 years (2009-2014), according to UEFA’s coefficient.
2. Average attendances of over 30,000 per game make La Liga the 3rd most watched professional football league in the world (only behind that of England and Germany).
3. Barcelona won the inaugural La Liga title in 1929 and have since gone on to win the title another 21 times.
4. Although synonymous with success Barcelona have also had to endure finishing 2nd more than any other Spanish club, finishing runners up a record 23 times.
5. Strict limits on the number of foreign players per team date back to the 1930’s, where in most cases only 3 foreigners were allowed per team.
6. Athletico Bibao are the only club to have never been relegated from the division.
7. Barcelona are the only club in La Liga to pay for their own shirt sponsor. The club pay £1.25m per year to support UNICEF on the back of their shirts!
8. The two most expensive players in La Liga currently play together for Real Madrid. Ronaldo signed for 90 million euros from Manchester United and Gareth Bale signing for a world record 91 million euros from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013.
9. Ronaldo holds the record for the most goals in one La Liga campaign with 40.
10. Real Madrid have won the most La Liga titles with 31 league triumphs.
