Barcelona’s club motto is “Més que un club” (More than a club). It’s a great honor for any player to don the famous Catalan jersey and to be successful at the Nou Camp they must live up to the ‘more than a club’ philosophy. 1. Lionel Messi
Perhaps one of the greatest football players ever, there is no question that Lionel Messi deserves a special mention at Barcelona. He is their top scorer in the League charts and still has plenty of years to further cement his legacy at the helm.
2. Johan Cruyff
While Barcelona’s tiki-taka style may have really taken off in the last few years, Cruyff honed it as a player during the 70’s and was unmatched in his brilliance on the pitch, picking up accolade after accolade. He later even managed the Catalans and instilled the philosophy that has paid rich dividends in the last few years.
3. Diego Maradona
The legendary Maradona spent a few years in Spain and although teamshonours were not forthcoming, El Diego ran riot on his own. In terms of individual ability, there is little doubt that anyone could be better than Maradona at his best.
4. Ronald Koeman
Known for his ferocious dead-ball strikes, Koeman was an integral part of the Camp Nou setup in the 90’s and that cemented his place as a Barcelona legend, especially with the part where he often came up with crucial goals in tight games. Koeman is now the manager of Everton.
5. Xavi Hernandez
Xavi is a modern-day wizard and right up there with the game’s greatest ever players. And his contribution to Barcelona’s success in the last few years cannot be understated for without his brilliance; the very epitome of Barca’s attractive football style would not exist.
6. Andres Iniesta
Iniesta goes hand in hand as a superb player that can score goals and as well as create them. And his partnership with Xavi is well-known and that has translated into success for both Barcelona and the Spanish National Team, where Iniesta has won everything there is to win in football.
While Barcelona’s attacking prowess has always made the headlines, it was Puyol that held up the backline to offset oncoming forwards. A born and bred Catalonian, the defender is close to hanging up his boots but remains an influential figure at the helm nonetheless.
The legendary forward is still continuing his career in Brazil, but will forever be remembered for his time in Catalonia, where he was regarded as one of the finest players on the planet.
The world has not seen anyone rival the kind of skills Ronaldinho produced on the pitch. And there is little doubt that the former World player of the year is one of the greatest ever to have donned the Blaugranacolours.
The Bulgarian was at the peak of his powers in the 90’s and nothing summed him better than iconic goals that set alight the stadium with applause.
11. Michael Laudrup
A technically gifted player, whose game sense resembled that of Johan Cruyff, Laudrup was one of best players in his generation and is still fondly remembered by the Camp Nou faithful.
