Speed kills (defences). Having a player with blistering pace can be the difference between latching on to a through ball, scoring that vital goal and getting all 3 points for your team.
So who are the 10 fastest players in the EPL?
1. Antonio Valencia – Manchester United
The Ecuadorian winger is believed to be the quickest player in football at this present moment in time. He has blistering pace and if he delivered a final product consistently he would be regarded as one of the best wingers in the world.
2. Aaron Lennon – Everton
He has extremely quick and agile feet and his acceleration over 30 yards is exceptional. He hasn’t been deployed as much as he had hoped for under Mauricio Pochettino but the English international will be certain to grab his opportunity once he gets it.
3. Alexis Sanchez – Arsenal
The former Barcelona winger has pace in abundance. Used as both the main striker and the wide attacker for Arsenal this season and his pace has caused numerous problems for the opposing defenders.
4. Hector Bellerin – Arsenal
Hector Bellerin has recently beaten Theo Walcott’s Arsenal record in the 40 yard sprint. After following in Cesc Fabregas’ footsteps in swapping Barcelona for North London, Bellerin has already established himself as one of the Premier League’s fastest players. Will he continue to increase his speed and take the number one spot next season?
5. Jamie Vardy – Leicester City
Jamie Vardy (and his pace) have propelled Leicester City to a fairytale Premier League triumph. Vardy has scored over 20 goals and uses his speed to often cut in side and shoot at goal. But his unpredictability is what makes his pace even more effective. He uses his body deceivingly well to fool a defender into believing he’s going one way but shift the other.
6. Danny Welbeck – Arsenal
His pace is largely down to his big strides which help him massively when chasing lost causes down the channels. He has already proved a useful addition to Arsenal since his arrival from Manchester United and has also demonstrated his pace on the international stage for England.
7. Willian – Chelsea
The pint sized Brazilian is an extremely tricky individual who causes a scare for Premier League full backs. He boasts a tremendous turn of pace and often likes to slow down the play and then accelerate away leaving the defender clutching at thin air.
8. Theo Walcott – Arsenal
Another Gunner to make the list is Theo Walcott. Despite slowing down due to a serious knee injury, Theo is still one of the quickest wide players around. Since he has added goals to his game he has now become a vital asset to Arsene Wenger.
9. Kyle Walker – Tottenham
The modern day full back is now required to have a lot of stamina defending and now attacking and none more so than Kyle Walker who has high levels of speed to fulfil this job very quickly. His ability to get up and down has helped Tottenham to break on the counter attack efficiently.
10. Jesus Navas – Manchester City
He was signed last summer from Sevilla precisely for his speed as this is what Manchester City lacked out wide. Despite not being a regular for City, his cameos from the substitutes bench can have a massive impact with his fresh legs against tiring defenders late into the game.
